Farewell Events for Pastor Carol

We have created several avenues for Pilgrims and Pastor Carol to share our goodbyes, as she concludes 22 years of Pilgrim pastoral ministry on Jan. 11. These events have been created with COVID safety in mind.

Indoor and Outdoor "Sit-bys."

Pastor Carol would love to see you before she leaves for Olympia Washington! Reservations are required for both of these events. For safety reasons, all people in a single reservation must live in the same household, and a household should only sign up for one event. There will be no bathroom access. Masks and physical distancing are required (e.g., no hugs!).

Saturday, January 2: Indoors, in the Pilgrim sanctuary Please enter the church from the office entrance at time of reservation, not earlier. Pilgrims will enter from the office entrance, proceed down to the "waiting area" (Fireside Room), then visit with Pastor Carol in the Sanctuary. There will be two seating areas in the Sanctuary located 6 feet apart. One is for Pastor Carol and the other is for the Pilgrim visitors. See diagram below. For example, a 2:00pm reservation enters the church at that time and waits in the Fireside Room until an usher signals to come to the Sanctuary. The 5-minute conversation with Pastor Carol will begin at 2:05pm. The parishioners will immediately leave the church afterward. Chairs will be sanitized in between visits.

Saturday, January 9: Outdoors, on the Pilgrim lawn, with a tent and firepits (parents should tend children near the fire)

  • Please wait inside your car until your scheduled reservation time.

  • Approach the tent area and a usher will instruct you where to wait before meeting with Pastor Carol.

  • For example, a 2:00pm reservation exits their car at that time and waits for an usher to signal toward the seating area. The 5-minute conversation with Pastor Carol will begin at 2:05pm. The parishioners will immediately leave the church afterward. Chairs will be sanitized in between visits.

Click here to sign up for a time slot. Please note that reservations are on a first come, first served basis. If you have trouble or need help scheduling an appointment, please call Timothy Bell-Kemp at 612-708-6495 for assistance, as the Church office will have limited staffing during the holidays. And, on both sit-by occasions, Pastor Carol will have a table(s) of giveaways, full of fun and varied gifts for you from her!

Pastoral Reflections

Sunday, January 3, 10:40-11:30am. Pastor Carol will lead the forum, via Zoom, sharing reflections on her 22 years of Pilgrim ministry.

An Online Program of Farewell

Sunday, January 10, 10:40-1130am. The Pilgrim Vestry and care team will lead the forum, with tributes from Pilgrim ministry groups, children and families, and friends.

A Drive-By Parade!

Sunday, January 10, 12:45-1:45pm. Pilgrims will assemble in cars at a designated location, with pace cars front and back, and proceed past Pilgrim to wave and honk goodbye to Pastor Carol.

Coffee Time after Evening Worship

Sunday, January 10, after the 6:51 service. Pastor Carol will be present via Zoom for conversation and farewells.

Memory Website

We have created a memory website where you can send public or private notes to Pastor Carol, post pictures, even create a meme! We invite you to use this space to share your memories of her time at Pilgrim with Pastor Carol. These memories and photos will be collected into a digital book for Pastor Carol to take with her on her next great adventure. If you wish for your message to be kept private and just for Pastor Carol this site will allow you to indicate so when you submit your contribution. The memory website is now "live" and ready for your contributions!

Honor Gifts

The Pilgrim Vestry and Staff Care team lead Anne Hall are coordinating two special gifts to honor Pastor Carol's tenure with us, to be presented at the online program of farewell on Sunday, January 10. If you would like to contribute to these gifts, you may do so via:

  • Paypal: Paypal Anne at paypal.me/turtleneckgirl

  • Venmo: Venmo @Anne-Hall-46. Anne's account has a picture of her.

  • Check: Checks may be sent to Anne's home address at 4276 Norma Ave, Arden Hills, MN 55112 (Make checks payable to Anne Hall and note "Pastor Carol honor gift" on the memo line.)

Any contributions over and above the cost of the gifts will be given to Pastor Carol for her "settling expenses" in Olympia (that is, to use as she sees fit).

(Pilgrim's Treasurer Jason Hendrickson will ensure that all gifts are properly accounted for. You are also welcome to give a gift directly to Pastor Carol.)

If you have questions about any of these events or avenues, please contact one of the following members of the Pilgrim Vestry:
