Adult Education and Spiritual Growth

Faith Formation is key in our pilgrimage as “hungry minds and souls.” We believe that all people of all ages are continually growing in faith and being shaped on the journey. We invite all pilgrims—adult, youth, and children—to take part in the various opportunities offered to help nurture a living faith.

Sunday Morning Adult Forums

Forums are offered most Sunday mornings during the school year. This educational hour focuses on various aspects of Christian life and is led by guest speakers, Pilgrim members, and staff.

Midweek at Pilgrim (M@P) Learning Hour

Hour-long forums are also offered most Wednesday evenings during the school year. More often than on Sunday mornings, M@P learning hours are organized into series, allowing participants an opportunity to explore a topic in more depth for two or more weeks.

New Member Series

Two or more times a year, Pilgrim offers a new member series to introduce newcomers to the Lutheran-Christian tradition and to the mission and ministries of Pilgrim. Existing members participate in parts of each series to welcome and accompany newcomers.

Faith-Deepening Small Groups

Each year we offer an assortment of intentional small group experiences that support deeper relationships between community members and spiritual growth. Some small groups meet in the church building, some meet in homes. Some groups meet over a period of months, while others meet for a series of weeks.

Theologian-in-Residence

As a commitment to feed “hungry minds and souls,” Pilgrim invites local theologians to help shepherd us on our theological and spiritual journey. Each year a new theologian is invited to participate in our communal life and serve as a resource person as we grow together in faith and life throughout the year.

Retreats and Pilgrimages

Pilgrim has made regular retreats to Holden Village, a year-round Lutheran retreat center (with an ecumenical spirit) located in the Cascade Mountains near Chelan, Washington. Pilgrim and friends of Pilgrim have also made pilgrimages to the Iona Community and Abbey in Scotland. We have also offered intergenerational camping weekends at church camps in the Midwest.

Programming for Parents and Other Caregivers of Children and Youth

Pilgrim offers a variety of gatherings and resources for parents. Our gatherings provide a welcoming and supportive space for parents to connect, share and grow as people of faith and as parents. Our time together includes facilitated discussion, resource sharing, all interspersed with prayer and words of support and inspiration. Occasionally, community experts are engaged to lead learning on a special topic.

Pilgrim currently offers two groups for parents: Lambs, for parents and their children birth to age 3; and Parents of Children, Pre-k to Grade 5. More occasional events and gatherings are offered for parents of youth, Grade 6 to 12.
