There are many and various ways to participate in music
at Pilgrim—from singing hymns in the congregation to singing
anthems in one of our choirs, from playing an instrument
during worship to leading the congregation in liturgical
song as a Sunday morning cantor. Sharing our musical gifts
in worship is a servant ministry. We sing or play, not to
bring glory and praise to ourselves as musicians, but rather
to glorify the One who made us and to bless the people who
gather to worship with us. Before each rehearsal and worship
service, Pilgrim choirs say the following prayer:
Bless, O Lord, us your servants, who minister in your
temple.
Grant that what we sing with our lips we may believe in
our hearts,
and what we believe in our hearts we may show forth in
our lives;
through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Whatever your musical gifts or inclinations may be, Pilgrim
invites you to use them to give glory to God and to inspire
God’s people in worship.
Senior Choir (Grade 9 - Adult)
The Senior Choir provides essential musical leadership
for Pilgrim worship services throughout the season between
September and June of each year. This dedicated group of
singers practices on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30
and sings an average of four Sunday services per month, as
well as for special seasonal and festival occasions
(Christmas Eve, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and others).
Drawing on a wide and inclusive repertoire, the Senior Choir
offers singers the opportunity to share the Gospel through
quality music of all times and styles, from choral classics
to 21st century anthems and world music. If you like to
sing (and have fun doing it), the Senior Choir is the place
for you.
Children's choirs are a fun way to participate in music
ministry and to meet new friends. All children in
kindergarten through eighth grade may join. No musical
knowledge is necessary; we learn together as we go. Pilgrim
offers two choir opportunities for children:
• Junior Choir (grades 3 - 8) practices on Wednesday
evenings from 5:00 to 5:45 and sings an average of two
Sunday services per month during the school year and for
special seasonal and festival occasions (Christmas Eve, Good
Friday, Easter Sunday, etc.).
• Cherub Choir (grades Preschool - 2) practices on Sunday
mornings as part of Sunday School and sings an average of
one Sunday worship service per month during the school year
and for special seasonal and festival occasions (see above).
Sunday Morning Music
In addition to our choirs, Pilgrim member and visiting
musicians and vocalists enhance our worship throughout the
year. Recent guest musicians have included: the House of
Mercy Band, Jonathan Rundman, the National Lutheran Choir
Cantors, Magnum Chorum, marimba artist Jonathan Hess, and
many vocal and instrumental soloists.
